Jan Karpinski was born in Liverpool in 1952. After university, he qualified as a lawyer and worked in London and Bristol. He stopped being a lawyer in 2014 and now has time for a wide range of interests. These include three family start-ups, the Friends of Somerset Libraries, being a member-nominated director of a large pension scheme and a director of 7 Starlings CIC, a local social enterprise. He lives in Somerset.
